Today we are proud to announce our first Keynote Speaker, Ildikó Vancsa, Ecosystem Technical Lead at OpenStack.
Ildikó started her journey with virtualization during the university years and has been in connection with this technology in different ways since then. She started her career at a small research and development company in Budapest, where she was focusing on areas like system management and business process modelling and optimisation. Ildikó got in touch with OpenStack when she started to work in the cloud project at Ericsson in 2013. She is a member of the Ceilometer and Aodh core teams and she drives NFV related feature development activities in projects like Nova and Cinder. Beyond code and documentation contributions she is also very passionate about onboarding and training activities, which is one of her focus areas within the OpenStack Foundation.
What do you think the audience will take away from your Keynote session?
“From open source cloud software OpenStack evolved to be a programmable infrastructure, a multi-purpose common platform, we are putting equal emphasis on enterprise use cases as well as Telecom and NFV. The audience will learn how we are collaborating with other open source projects, how this platform can serve bare metal, virtual machine and container based workloads and more.”
Looking at the horizon, what do you think the future of Open Source looks like?
“I think open source is a bridge between production development and innovation by providing an open area for great minds to come together and bring technology to the next level. Open source is also a mindset and I see it becoming even more common in the future. We are embracing this with the ‘Four Opens’ in OpenStack to keep it a productive and forward looking environment for our community members.”
“I’m located in Budapest Hungary, but by now I consider the whole world as my home. By joining the Foundation team I can put more emphasis on learning about our ecosystem, which is a very interesting journey for me. I work on supporting our members to succeed with OpenStack, both as a software and as a community, where my main focus areas are Telecom/NFV and on boarding new contributors to the community.”
Ildikó is contributing in many areas but is now most active and focused on the cooperation between the Compute (Nova) and Block Storage (Cinder) services. Together with her team they are working on making the API interactions simpler to make the code easier to maintain and develop further. With communication as her speciality, Ildikó enhances the collaboration between the two project teams.
“As this is an event that’s focusing on to gather users, operators and developers from the region, my expectation is that it will help to facilitate the growth of the local community. These events are very valuable to make the connection between people within local areas and by this way making it easier to share knowledge, experience and expertise. I’m very excited to meet the local community and learn what they are working on and experimenting within and in connection to OpenStack.”
